18 declared for Arc as Great Heavens added
04 Oct 2012 | Racingpost.com Irish Oaks winner Great Heavens has been added to Sunday's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe for which a field of 18 have been declared.
With Nathaniel among three high-profile horses ruled out of the race earlier in the week, his owners have chosen to add his younger sister Great Heavens to the world's richest turf race at a cost of €100,000.
As well as Great Heavens, Prix du Jockey Club winner Saonois and Bayrir, second behind him in the Prix Niel, have also been added. Reliable Man was taken out of the race.
Camelot has joined Orfevre at the head of the betting in some lists with Great Heavens introduced around the 10-1 mark. Bayrir has been given quotes of 16-1 while Saonois, who was expected to be added, is third-favourite.
Barring any non-runners, 18 looks like being the final field for the Arc, although there is a cancellation of declaration stage on Friday morning.
A field of 12 have been left in the Prix Marcel Boussac, of which six are trained in Britain or Ireland. Purr Along (William Muir), Sky Lantern (Richard Hannon) and My Special J's are among those to stand their ground.
Aidan O'Brien pair Pedro The Great and George Vancouver are among 11 left in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere. Taayel (Gosden), Olympic Glory (Hannon) and Maxentius (Peter Chapple-Hyam) also remain alongside 1,000 Guineas third-favourite What A Name (Mikel Delzangles).
