Dawn Approach misses Phoenix Stakes
11 Aug 2012 | Racingpost.com

Dawn Approach, unbeaten in four starts this season as a two-year-old, will not attempt to stretch the sequence to five on Sunday at the Curragh after failing to feature among the final declarations for the Phoenix Stakes.

The colt was last seen when winning the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, and with the ground described as yielding on Friday, connections will wait for the Futurity Stakes at the track later in the month.

Bolger said: "The Futurity Stakes was the original plan. Dawn Approach is fine but I don't think the ground would be suitable for him on Sunday, so we're going to stick with the original plan."

Aidan O'Brien has three chances in the Group 1, led by Cristoforo Colombo, with Mick Channon sending over Goodwood winner Bungle Inthejungle.

Godolphin, who bought a half share in Dawn Approach,  will have to wait a bit longer to see their colours carried by the juvenile, but Starspangledbanner, not seen since 2010, is set to return to action in the Group 3 Patrick P O'Leary Memorial Phoenix Sprint Stakes.

The six-year-old will be joined by stablemate After and  is one of nine runners for the 6f contest, which also features Definightly for Roger Charlton.
