Japanese champion racemare Vodka has been retired and will be covered by Sea The Stars.

The winner of ten of her 26 starts including seven at the top level ran her last race at Meydan on Thursday when eighth in the Grade 2 Derrinstown-sponsored Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3, reportedly bleeding in the race, and will retire to visit the European champion according to Nikkan Sports.

The superstar six-year-old Tanino Gimlet mare was shipped to Dubai with a tilt at the $10 million Dubai World Cup on the agenda.

The all-time leading female earner of $13,147,826, Vodka would have surpassed T M Opera O ($16,200,337) to become the Thoroughbred racing'sall-time leading earner had she won the World Cup.

Vodka was named Japanese champion two-year-old filly in 2006 and became the first filly in 64 years to win Japan's Derby, the Tokyo Yushun.

She retained her brilliant form as a four-year-old, adding the Group 1s Tenno Sho and Yasuda Kinen before finishing third in the Japan Cup en route to becoming crowned Horse of the Year.

She won the Group 1 Victoria Mile and a second Yasuda Kinen last year before a career-defining victory in the Japan Cup that cemented a second Horse of the Year award.
