Brighton treble takes Hughes level with Moore
09 Aug 2012 | Racingpost.com

Richard Hughes moved level with title rival Ryan Moore in the Flat jockeys' championship with a terrific treble at Brighton on Wednesday.

Hughes secured a fabulous four-timer at Bath on Tuesday and his three winners on Wednesday clawed back the deficit in the title race.

The pair are now level with 90 winners each and Ladbrokes, who were a best-priced 4-7 about Hughes winning a first title on Wednesday morning, now go 2-5. Stan James offer 1-4 while bet365 are 2-9.

Moore, who returns from a three-day absence at Sandown on Thursday night, is no bigger than 10-3 with bet365 but Ladbrokes offer 7-4.

Ladbrokes spokesman David Williams said: "Hughes is in flying form and it seems like an age since we laid a bet on his main rival for the title. It is one-way traffic."

From his last 12 rides, Hughes has partnered an incredible seven winners and he has the opportunity to extend his sequence with one more ride at Kempton on Wednesday evening. He was out of luck on Narcissist in the maiden before he finished fourth on Tight Lipped in the next race.

Hughes said: "I have caught up quite quickly after the Indian ban. I couldn't do it without Richard's horses - that's the key.

"I thought I had some good rides both yesterday and today but thought I might get one and it ended up a four-timer and today is going well."

The best of Hughes's rides on the Polytrack at Kempton looks to be Abriachan for trainer Noel Quinlan in the closing 1m handicap at 9pm.
