Last year’s winner Midday heads a high-class renewal of the Group One Blue Square Nassau Stakes at Goodwood on Saturday with seven runners bidding to land the prestigious prize.

Midday gave Henry Cecil his sixth training success in the Blue Square Nassau Stakes and went on to land the Grade One Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Santa Anita. She kicked off this season at York in May when she finished second to Sariska in the Group Two Middleton Stakes.

Sir Michael Stoute has saddled seven previous winners of the famous race and Strawberrydaiquiri, winner of the Group Two Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot will bid to enhance that record.

No French-trained filly has ever won the Blue Square Nassau Stakes but two will attempt to put that straight this year.

Last season’s Group One Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Rosanara, trained by the Aga Khan for Alain de Royer Dupre, has gone on to finish second in the Group One Prix de Diane on her latest start.

The four-year-old Stacelita racked up three Group One successes last season for trainer Jean-Claude Rouget and was a comfortable winner of the Group Three La Coupe at Longchamp on her latest start.

The one-eyed Barshiba also heads to Goodwood in good form, having landed the Group Two Lancashire Oaks for a second consecutive year earlier this monh.

High-class German performer Antara made a winning debut on her first start for Godolphin in the Group Three Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom on June 5. She went on to finish third to Strawberrydaiquiri in the Group Two Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot

It is 25 years since Newmarket trainer Luca Cumani last won the Blue Square Nassau Stakes (with Free Guest in 1985) and the rapidly-improving Contredanse represents him, having won the Group Two Italian Oaks on her most recent run.
