From wide barriers, TELEPHATIA and ALWAYS WONGCHOY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
For some distance approaching the 1800 Metres, MY FOLKS proved very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of MEDIC SWORDSMAN. MY FOLKS then shifted out away from the heels of MEDIC SWORDSMAN and bumped CHARITY PLENTY.
Passing the 1700 Metres, CHEERFUL FRAME got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover.

Passing the 1100 Metres, AUDACITY raced tight inside the heels of HOLY UNICORN.
Rounding the Home Turn, AUDACITY was checked away from the heels of CHEERFUL FRAME after attempting to improve between that horse and HOLY UNICORN where there was insufficient room. AUDACITY then shifted out and brushed HOLY UNICORN when obtaining tight running between those horses a short distance later.
Also rounding the Home Turn, STORM KID got its head up when being checked away from the heels of LUCKY SEBRING. MEDIC SWORDSMAN and LOYAL CRAFTSMAN, which were following, were held up for clear running in consequence.
At the entrance to the Straight, TELEPHATIA became unbalanced after shifting out abruptly away from the heels of HOLY UNICORN.
Approaching the 250 Metres, SWEET BEAN was shifted out away from the heels of CHEERFUL FRAME which was giving ground.

The performance of RED SUN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, RED SUN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of DOUBLE POINT immediately following the race found the horse to have blood present at the right nostril. An endoscopic examination conducted on DOUBLE POINT confirmed the horse to be a bleeder.

HOT HOT PEPPER and NASHASHUK bumped on jumping.
From the outside barriers, GODSPEED, SHARPMIND, SEE ME NOW and PROUD SKY were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

A veterinary inspection of SHARPMIND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Race: 4 (584) SIU SAI WAN HANDICAP Class 4 1000 m
SAKURA FIGHTER began awkwardly and lost ground.
FISH N’ CHIPS (Apprentice H T Mo) began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was crowded for room between ROCKET LET WIN and BEST STEP which shifted out. Apprentice Mo reported that in this incident his saddle shifted to the right, placing him at a significant disadvantage for the remainder of the race. FISH N’ CHIPS subsequently travelled wide and without cover throughout the race.
Passing the 500 Metres, JOYFUL FOREVER got its head on the side and lay out.
BEAUTY CONNECTION lost its right front plate after the race.
When questioned, M L Yeung stated that, from the outside barrier, he had been asked to ride LUNAR ZEPHYR in about a midfield position or just worse than midfield with cover if possible. He said the connections had been somewhat disappointed by the manner in which LUNAR ZEPHYR had been finishing off its races when ridden for speed since arriving in Hong Kong and as the horse was drawn the outside barrier tonight and the race appeared to have a number of horses engaged in it which had previously shown natural early speed, it was felt that riding LUNAR ZEPHYR forward may lead to the horse being left racing very wide and consequently not being able to finish off the race. He said in the early stages he attempted to obtain a position in midfield, however, passing the 800 Metres was left racing very wide and therefore he elected to steady LUNAR ZEPHYR and obtained a position closer to the rail which resulted in the horse racing well back in the field. He said ridden more quietly tonight, LUNAR ZEPHYR was able to steadily make ground rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight closed off the race fairly. He added, in his opinion, LUNAR ZEPHYR finished off the race better tonight than it did when he had ridden it in a prominent position on one previous occasion.
A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY CONNECTION immediately following the race found the horse to have sustained a small overreach wound to the left front heel.
BEAUTY CONNECTION, MR RIGHT and BEST STEP were sent for sampling.

Race: 5 (585) TIN SAU HANDICAP Class 4 1650 m
WINASWEWISH lost ground when crowded for room on jumping between AMAZING FEELING and GREAT TREASURE which shifted in when being steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, GREAT TREASURE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JOLLY AMBER.
Passing the 1400 Metres, GREAT JOY got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SOUL ACHIEVER. Then for some distance after the 1300 Metres, GREAT JOY continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of SOUL ACHIEVER.
S Clipperton (HALL OF FAME) pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of GENTRY, resulting in that horse being checked when taken in onto the heels of GREAT JOY. After having considered further submissions put by S Clipperton in answer to the charge, the Stewards did not believe in the circumstances that it was appropriate for the charge to be sustained. In arriving at this decision, the Stewards found that HALL OF FAME, which had been racing ungenerously in the lead up to this incident, shifted in marginally and at the same time GREAT JOY, which was racing to the inside of GENTRY, was being steadied away from the heels of SOUL ACHIEVER. As there were a number of circumstances associated with this incident, the Stewards believed that S Clipperton should be given the benefit of the doubt, however, he was reprimanded and told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to leave comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances.
After the 1300 Metres, HALL OF FAME improved into tight running between GREAT JOY and NEVER BETTER.
After the race, H W Lai (GREAT TREASURE) reported that his mount did not feel comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of GREAT TREASURE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

HAPPY COOPERATION lost its left front plate near the 950 Metres.
Near the 650 Metres, TRIUMPHANT JEWEL was taken wider by HAPPY COOPERATION which shifted out and consequently travelled wide and without cover.
Close to the finishing line, HAPPY COOPERATION improved to be racing close to the heels of TRAVEL COMFORTS (Apprentice H T Mo) and blundered passing the winning post. Consequently HAPPY COOPERATION was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race. As the Stewards were satisfied that at no stage had HAPPY COOPERATION improved to be racing outside the heels of TRAVEL COMFORTS, no further action was taken, however, Apprentice Mo was warned against the practice of allowing his mounts to shift ground under pressure.
TRIUMPHANT JEWEL lay out under pressure in the Straight and over the concluding stages raced tight between HAPPY COOPERATION and WAYFOONG VINNIE and consequently was not able to be properly tested.

Before being allowed to race again, GENEROUS HEART and SUPER SPRINTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Just prior to the start being effected, NUMERO UNO turned its head to the left and consequently was slow to begin.
From a wide barrier, IRON BOY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, SUNNY DRAGON got its head up and shifted out abruptly across the heels of EXPERTO CREDE, resulting in SUNNY DRAGON losing ground. NUMERO UNO, which was following SUNNY DRAGON, was inconvenienced in consequence.
MOMENT OF POWER raced wide and without cover until passing the 600 Metres.
A BEAUTIFUL had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and passing the 200 Metres and again passing the 100 Metres.

Race: 8 (588) SO KON PO HANDICAP Class 3 1650 m
At declaration time, Z Purton was declared as the rider of both JADE FORTUNE and PHOTON WILLIE. It was established that Z Purton had a firm commitment to ride JADE FORTUNE. As such, the Stewards permitted K Teetan to be substituted as the rider of PHOTON WILLIE. For this declaration error, Trainer P O’Sullivan was fined $2,000.
FANTASTIC KAKA began only fairly and then lost ground when crowded for room between MY GIFT and YOUNG RANGER which shifted out.
From the outside barriers, PHOTON WILLIE and HERO LOOK were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
LITTERATEUR was also steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Passing the 1400 Metres, FANTASTIC KAKA commenced to travel keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHATER LEGEND.
YOUNG RANGER lost its right front plate approaching the winning position on the first occasion.
Near the 650 Metres, LAND GRANT was taken wider by WISKY which shifted to the outside of JADE FORTUNE. After this, LAND GRANT travelled wide and without cover.

At the entrance to the Straight, CHATER LEGEND shifted out and brushed LAND GRANT.
Also at the entrance to the Straight, YOUNG RANGER was directed in away from the heels of WISKY.
Approaching the 100 Metres, PHOTON WILLIE was directed out away from the heels of YOUNG RANGER to continue improving.
In the Straight, LAND GRANT lay in under pressure and passing the 100 Metres was awkwardly placed outside the heels of CHATER LEGEND when proving difficult to ride.
When questioned, H W Lai stated that he had been asked to ride THUNDER STOMP in about a midfield position with cover. He said it was felt that there were a number of horses that would be ridden up on the speed and were he to ride THUNDER STOMP positively, that horse may be left racing wide. He said in accordance with his instructions he steadied THUNDER STOMP in the early stages as LAND GRANT, which was racing directly to the inside of THUNDER STOMP, was being ridden along to obtain a forward position. He said as he shifted across to race behind LAND GRANT, MY GIFT maintained its position one horse off the rail, resulting in THUNDER STOMP being left racing three wide. He said he then steadied THUNDER STOMP further with a view to shifting in behind MY GIFT as he felt that he may be able to manoeuvre LITTERATEUR closer to the rail to allow THUNDER STOMP to obtain cover one horse off the rail behind MY GIFT. He said however that LITTERATEUR maintained its position one horse off the rail and this resulted in THUNDER STOMP initially being very awkward on the heels of MY GIFT and then being left racing in a three wide position and much further back in the field that had been intended. Prior to concluding this matter, the Stewards will interview Mr Y S Tsui, the trainer of THUNDER STOMP, prior to the Sha Tin racemeeting to be conducted on Sunday, 23 April 2017. A veterinary inspection of THUNDER STOMP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that PHOTON WILLIE was lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, PHOTON WILLIE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
