Wellington saddles up for Boot
21 Mar 2012 | Racing NSW Bumper nominations for the two-day TAB Saddle-Up Sunday's Wellington Boot Carnival are the best in years according to Wellington Race Club secretary Ian Giffins.
“We have the largest fields in recent memory and one of the best quality Boot fields on record,” Mr Giffins said.
26 nominations were received for the iconic Wellington Boot, with a number of prominent
metropolitan based trainers looking to travel their horses to the Central District racecourse.
“TAB Saddle-Up Sundays is a new initiative undertaken by Tabcorp and Racing NSW to heavily promote feature country meetings and it has generated several new events around our Carnival.
“We’ve also been fortunate that Magic Millions has partnered with the club and will sponsor a race for the first time.”
Racegoers will have the chance to win two tickets to the International Lounge on Golden Slipper Day, as well as a signed Australia vs India cricket bat donated by Carlton and the Sky Racing Team will be there to film Off The Beaten Track.
Anne Jones, the mayor of Wellington believes the combination of increased stakes and effort put into the Carnival will ensure a great weekend.
“I am very excited about the Wellington Boot, especially considering the $60,000 prizemoney… but just as important is the interaction between Racing NSW and the Wellington Committee in making sure this is the best Wellington Boot ever.”
Other activities over the weekend include the Rotary Club Boot Markets, NSW Farmers’ Association Farmers’ Muster, the crowning of Miss Wellington Boot, Calcutta dinner and a Breakfast with the Stars.
Following the iconic Wellington Boot Racing Carnival, TAB Saddle-Up Sundays will be racing its way up to Tamworth for the Tamworth Cup on April 29 2012.
