Makybe Diva Stakes upgraded to Group 1
11 Jun 2013 | ThoroughbredNEWS News Desk
The Australian Pattern Committee on Tuesday announced that the application to upgrade the Makybe Diva Stakes from Group 2 to Group 1 has been approved by the Asian Pattern Committee.

The Chairman of The Australian Pattern Committee Alan Brown commented:

“The Makybe Diva Stakes plays an important role in the Melbourne Spring Carnival and exceeds all the required criteria for upgrade. It is the only remaining Australian Group 2 race eligible at present for promotion to Group 1 and we are delighted that the Asian Pattern Committee has agreed with our submission”

Formally known as the Craiglee Stakes, the race received a name change to the Makybe Diva Stakes to honour the mare who won three Melbourne Cups.

The race will be run as a Group 1 on September 7th over 1600m at Flemington and will carry prizemoney of $350,000.
