Foreteller (GB) fires in Peter Young
23 Feb 2013 |

A ground saving ride by Dwayne Dunn has helped Foreteller (GB) take out the $220,000, Group 2, WFA Carlton Draught Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Settled last behind a slow tempo, a rails hugging ride by jockey Dwayne Dunn was enough to see the Chris Waller-trained gelding poke his head in front over the concluding stages.

The gelding turned the tables on Budriguez (Al Maher) and Brett Prebble who finished third whilst also edging out the in form Mr Moet (Mosayter) and Daniel Staeck.

The margins were a long neck and short half-head with the time 1.50.97 on the Good 3 track, with the final 600m in 34.21.

Foreteller is expected to again clash with his main rivals from today in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) on March 9.

“He will definitely go to the (Australian) Cup now,” Stable Representative Justine Hales said.

“It was a brilliant ride by Dwayne [Dunn], he didn’t panic and stayed on the rail and I think having the ride on him the other day helped.

It was the second leg of a winning treble for Dunn who opened up the day with success aboard Grand Emperor and prior to another Group 1 victory aboard All Too Hard in the Futurity Stakes (1400m).

“The tempo was so muddling and I could get out from where I was so I just had to take my options when they were presented to me,” Dunn said.

“I was right behind the leaders on straightening after doing no work and the others had fought their way out wide and it took their finish off them.”

Foreteller is now the fifth favourite for the Group 1 Australian Cup at Flemington, quoted at $12 with TAB Sportsbet Fixed Odds.

Foreteller is a six-year-old gelding by Danslii out of the Warning mare Prophecy. This was his eighth win from 26 starts and with two placings he has earned stakes of $554,021 for owners Neil Werrit's Werrett Bloodstock, Gerard Peterson's G G Ltd Syndicate, I Bruce, D Ackery, F Cook, Mrs C Cook, K Hunt, B Mathieson, R Smith, B Bradley and the Estate of B Wright.
