Avdulla and Howmuchdoyouloveme combine again
20 Oct 2012 | By Rob Burnet

Brenton Avdulla combined with the Con Karakatsanis trained Howmuchdoyouloveme for the fourth time in succession and they won their fourth race in succession when taking the $220,000, Group 2 Perri Cutten Caulfield Sprint (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

In a power display of sprinting the four-year-old Written Tycoon gelding was sent to the lead by Avdulla from barrier two and they totally controlled the race from that point.

Canali (55kg) and Luke Currie carried the rest of the field but with 400m to run Howmuchdoyouloveme (54.5kg) was leading by 1L and with 300m to run a 1 1/2L. The chasers were all struggling and Avdulla then set Howmuchdoyouloveme alight to go away and win by 2L.

Canali (Exceed And Excel) kept on for second with Latin News (53.5kg) (Hussonet) and Dwayne Dunn third, the margin a long neck. Altar was fourth.

The time was 1.03.16 on the upgraded Good 3 track with the final 600m in 34.08. Howmuchdoyouloveme paid $3.20 as favourite.

“He was first-up for ten weeks so he is going to have a lot of improvement under his belt,” said Karakatsanis.

“He just puts himself in the race and he is absolutely bombproof. He has got a big future.”

“I will just see how he pulls up but at this stage he’ll go to the Salinger (Yellowglen Stakes, Flemington, 1200m) and if he runs well there he will back up in the Patinack Farm (Classic).”

“Dad has done a great job, we work together and it’s great for the stable, great for the team and it’s much appreciated.”

“A special thanks to John and Gerard Moloney for having me there at Caulfield and looking after me,” he said.

“It’s a big thrill to ride him and I’ve been with him every step of the way,” said Avdulla.

“From day one when we trialled him I knew he was pretty special and they were thinking of selling him but I’m glad they kept him.”

“I was a little bit worried today because he is only 80-85% fit. Con has got him as well as he could to get him here today but I was just a little bit suspect if he’d be on tired legs for the last 100m which he was.”

“We were able to get through the first 600m comfortable enough and just thought on the point of the corner, with the run I’d had that I’d just see how good he is and see if they can get me but he was just too strong.”

“Everything started here when I was 15 and I’d never put a head collar on a horse but I left school and John and Gerard (Moloney) have been big supporters of mine and without them I wouldn’t be here today,” he said.

It was the fifth time that Avdulla has won on Howmuchdoyouloveme which is all of the gelding’s win from just six starts; Jay Ford rode him for a second at Rosehill last October. He was prepared for the race first up after winning the listed Ramornie over 1200m at Grafton back on July 11th.

Howmuchdoyouloveme is out of the Celtic Swing mare Betula Belle and he is owned by the Karakatsanis family and Mrs K Michael and P Doyle. Stakes earnings are $315,645.
