Stakes increase for Geelong Cup
24 Jul 2012 | Geelong Racing Club The Geelong Racing Club on Tuesday announced that the prize money for this year’s Group 3 Centrebet Geelong Cup (2400m) will increase to $300,000.

This represents a $75,000 increase from last year’s Cup stakes of $225,000.

“Increasing the prize money to $300,000 plus trophies enhances the Centrebet Geelong Cup’s rightful standing as the premier country Cup in Victoria,” Geelong Racing Club President Paul Bongiorno said.

“Having our last 2 Geelong Cup winners, in Americain and Dunaden, go on and win the Melbourne Cup demonstrates the significant elevation in status of our Cup. We believe the prize money now on offer is in keeping with it being the key lead up race to the Melbourne Cup and now gives the ever increasing number of international horses further incentive to contest the event,” he said.

The Geelong Cup meeting is on Wednesday, October 12th, 2012.
