Wagers on Black Caviar included $200,000 at $1.15
24 Jun 2012 | ThoroughbredNEWS News Desk Australian punters wagered over $ 1million in fixed odds betting with TAB Sportsbet on Black Caviar to win the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes over 1200m on the final day of Royal Ascot on Saturday.

The bookmaker reports that just under $900,000 of that was placed during the 24 hours prior to the running of the race.

Black Caviar started at $1.15 and plenty of people wanted to be financially invested on her despite the short odds. Many punyters anchored her as one leg of a multi bet.

Some of the bigger bets on Black Caviar:

$200,000 at $1.15
$120,000 at $1.15
$99,000 at $1.15

In other wagering news Dunaden a $16 is now favourite for the Group 1 Melbourne Cup over 3200m at Flemington on November 6th after an impressive second placing in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes over 2400m on the same card at Royal Ascot.

Last year’s winner of the Melbourne Cup showed a great turn of foot to hit the line and firmed from $21. Red Cadeaux remains $26 after finishing third in the same race.

Punters should note that the Irish-bred Dunaden may not be back to defend his title with connections not willing to run him with a penalty weight for last year's win.
