Caulfield Cup and Guineas nominations

BMW Caulfield Cup nominations

The Melbourne Racing Club has received 222 nominations for the 2012 BMW Caulfield Cup which, as mentioned previously, includes 25 internationally-trained horses. This represents an increase of three on 2011 and on the average over the last five years.

“We’re very pleased with the initial reception to the BMW Caulfield Cup from both Australia and New Zealand and beyond,” Mr Robertson said.

“The international contingent is particularly exciting, providing further weight to the Caulfield Cup as a standalone international feature.”

Late nominations for the 2012 BMW Caulfield Cup close on August 28, with the release of weights following on September 5.

Caulfield Guineas and Schweppes Thousand Guineas

Among the 237 and 206 three-year-olds nominated for the Caulfield Guineas and Schweppes Thousand Guineas respectively were star juveniles Pierro, All Too Hard and Samaready.

“We are thrilled to have a couple of wonderful colts in Pierro – just the sixth horse in Australian racing history to complete the two-year-old triple crown and son of a former Guineas champion in Lonhro – and All Too Hard – who needs no introduction as Black Caviar’s budding star younger sibling – aimed at the Guineas from this range,” Mr Robertson said.

“And we’re also very excited about the prospect of seeing Samaready again during our carnival, whether it is in the Schweppes Thousand Guineas, or if she sticks to the shorter courses, the Blue Sapphire Stakes, a new $250,000 1200-metre race for three-year-olds on Guineas day.”

Late nominations for both the 2012 Caulfield Guineas and Schweppes Thousand Guineas close on August 14, with first declarations required by September 11.
