Randwick trainer Gai Waterhouse gained some compensation for her filly Fashions Afield coming second in the Group III Silver Shadow Stake at Randwick on Saturday when Lotteria won the last race of the AJC’s programme, the $75,000, listed, McGrath Show County Quality Handicap (1200m). It was worth the wait.
It was example of the Randwick trainer’s ability to train first up winners as the four-year-old mare had not raced since an unplaced finish in the AJC Oaks on March 30th.
Lotteria, another by the top stallion Redoute’s Choice, was clear at the turn and Lenny Beasley kept her going well. She did shift out against One In A Million, another four-year-old mare Redoute’s Choice, but the margin was not enough to influence the result.
Lotteria won the Group I Flight Stakes last spring and she is a very talented mare. That was emphasised once again by the race time of 1.09.91, the final 600m clipped at 33.87. It was a very good performance.
Lotteria is another example of the Danehill/Sir Tristram cross as she is out of the Sir Tristram mare Rose Reward. She is raced by Gerry Harvey, KT Nam, PL Ward and the Est Of The Late G Smorgon.
Her record stands at nine starts, six wins and one second. Stakes are $562,260 and the season is her oyster.
Waterhouse has her nominated for the Group I Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick and the Group I WS Cox Plate (2040m), giving Harvey multiple entries, and in the meantime Waterhouse will decide on lead up races to dominate.
