Bowman takes lead in Bart Cummings Medal
26 Jun 2012 | By Ben Flores - racingnsw.com.au Champion jockey Hugh Bowman has shot to the top of the board in the race for the 2011/2012 Bart Cummings Medal.
Bowman, who took out the inaugural Bart Cummings Medal in 2008-09 had been sitting consistently towards the top of the leader board for this season but was yet to lead.
In taking the top position, Bowman (51 points) relegated seasoned jockey Jim Cassidy to second place on 45 points, leaving dynamo trainer Chris Waller (44 points) one point behind in third.
Sitting just behind Waller on 43 is Sydney carnival heroine Gai Waterhouse.
Points in the BCM are determined by the opinions of a panel of leading racing media figures (6-4-2 on a Saturday and 3-2-1 for midweeks) and are tallied over the racing year to determine the winner of the Bart Cummings Medal, culminating in an awards night on Thursday, 16 August 2012 which will also showcase highlights of the racing calendar.
