Fourtracks Forkids to debut at Newcastle
07 Aug 2012 | Racingandsports.com.au Prominent racehorse owner Geoff Grimmish will not be the only one cheering on his debutant Fourtracks Forkids at Newcastle on Wednesday, with the total prizemoney earned by the horse going towards the worthy charity with the same name.
The three-year-old Dane Shadow filly will line up in the De Bortoli Maiden Plate (1200m) and trainer Craig Carmody, who also trains Single for Grimmish is happy with the improvement his galloper has made leading into the race.
“Geoff Grimmish wanted to support the charity and that's a reflection of his character, he is a very generous man,” said Carmody.
“It's been very much a work in process with the horse and she showed signs of neurotic behaviour but slowly and surely we seem to have reassured that,” he added.
“I am happy to be taking her to the races tomorrow and she really seems to be handling things better now.”
Ridden by Nathan Berry, Fourtracks Forkids will jump from barrier seven and attempt to kick off her career with a $19,880 donation to the charity against a capacity field of three-year-olds.
“Geoff likes to run his horses in the metropolitan area and whilst there might have been an easier target that's probably the most sensible all round,” said Carmody.
“Her second trial was a lot better than her first when running second at Randwick and hopefully she can do well for us tomorrow.”
Every year a group of racing industry participants led by Richard Callander make the arduous trek from Warwick Farm to the Sydney children's Hospital via every Sydney track to raise money for the worthy cause.
The 4tracks 4kids walk will take place on October 1 this year with moneys raised going towards the Sydney Children's Hospital Network along with the Sporting Chance Kids Foundation.
