Lever to remain in John Hunter Hospital this week

NSW jockey Chad Lever will remain in Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital until possibly being transferred to Sydney next week after his race fall at Scone on Tuesday.

Racing NSW Steward, Damien Carr, reported jockey Chad Lever fell approaching the home turn when riding Anticipate during race 5. Chad was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital at Newcastle.

Update at 10am on Thursday 10th August: Racing NSW's Dr David Duckworth reported Chad is still pretty sore and on a lot of medication for pain. His face is very swollen and he had his laceration sutures last night. Chad will be in John Hunter Hospital (Newcastle) for at least the weekend with the possibility he will be transferred to Sydney next week, in relation to his facial fractures.

Update at 8am on Wednesday 9th August: Racing NSW's Dr David Duckworth has reported Chad is now in the neuro ward with his fiance Claire Nutman by his side. Chad is doing better and is a lot more alert. A plastic surgeon is expected to see him today for the big gash above his eye. Chad still has soreness to his jaw and thumb which will be x-rayed today. He will be monitored after his concussion and may be transferred to a Sydney hospital in a day or so.

Update at 9:15pm on Tuesday 8th August: Racing NSW's Dr David Duckworth reported Chad has concussion and a small bleed on his brain that just needs observation. Chad has a deep cut on his forehead that needs stitching. They are still waiting to see the neurosurgeon. Chad also has a painful jaw and thumb that needs X-rays tomorrow.
