Weekend sweep for Magic Millions juveniles
02 Jul 2012 | Magic Millions The spectacular winning run of juveniles sold by Magic Millions continued over the weekend.

Led by the outstanding city wins of juveniles including Grand Business, Splash of Moet, Fusil de Eve and Songburg, the win count over the weekend hit nine.

The number of races won by a two-year-old sold by the Gold Coast based sales company this season has reached a staggering 333.

Grand Business kick started the streak when he scored back to back Sydney city wines at Rosehill on Saturday.

The son of All Bar One, a $180,000 purchase from last year's National Horses in Training Sale is prepared at the track by premiership leading horseman Chris Waller.

Grand Business was purchased from the HIT sale by Nicholas and James Moore on behalf of Macau based businessman Lai Chan Cheong.

"The horse has done a great job," Waller told TVN post-race. "He obviously had some ability before coming to us, he had good form in Queensland but we just dropped him back in distance and started from scratch."

"He has learned what to do now. He is relaxing in his races and finishing them off strongly."

Waller said he would give Grand Business his chance at stakes races - taking a similar approach to the early three-year-old features of the season - something he did with subsequent Group One winner Shellscrape.

Fusil de Eve scored an emotional win for Caloundra trainer Jason McLachlan at his home track on Saturday when she led home her rivals in the Bruce McLachlan Classic (1200m).

A $30,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Chateau Istana, Fusil de Eve sent tears streaming down the races of connections when she scored the length and a half margin.

"I've won this for my Dad," an emotional Jason McLachlan said. "I miss him every day."

Accomplished rider Justin Stanley was at his best aboard Fusil de Eve, enabling McLachlan to win the race named in honour of his Hall of Fame father for the second time in three years.

Songburg made it two wins in nine days when she finished too well for her rivals in a driving finish at Belmont in Perth on Saturday.

The daughter of Holy Roman Emperor, a $50,000 Perth Yearling Sale purchase, is prepared at Ascot by the father-son training partnership of Lou and Dion Luciani.

The filly was sent out one of the fancies in the field after her impressive previous start win at Northam.

"It was a good win, she really let down and it was a good effort," co-trainer Dion Luciani said.

The most impressive juvenile win of the weekend was turned in by exciting Adelaide filly Splash of Moet, a stunning six and three quarter length winner at Morphettville on Saturday.

Equally as impressive at her only other run in Adelaide in June, Splash of Moet was purchased as a yearling in Adelaide last year for $42,500 by Kevin Dagg and is trained by good friend Mark Minervini.

The daughter of Dash for Cash and the Rory's Jester mare Storm Tossed, Splash of Moet will now be given her chance at black type after going two for two.

"At this stage she will go to the Dermody (Stakes) at the end of July," Minervini reported. "She looked pretty impressive on Saturday and importantly has pulled up a treat and licked the feed bin out overnight."

Other Magic Millions juvenile graduates to win over the weekend included Planet Voyage (Exceed and Excel), Offense (Red Ransom), Aresvepee (Sequalo), On a Given Day (Fastnet Rock) and Schweiz (All Bar One).

As it stands this season (since August 1) Magic Millions graduates have won over 5,800 races and the season still has four weeks to run.
