SINGAPORE SEPTEMBER MEETING 2017
FRIDAY, 22 SEPTEMBER 2017:

RACE 6 [TF1189]

On Sunday, 12 November 2017, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into a report from the Clerk of Scales that Jockey R Shafiq, the rider of SUPERSONICSURPRISE, returned to scale 1.0kg over the declared weight that he weighed out for the above race.

Jockey R Shafiq pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 121(7) in that after riding SUPERSONICSURPRISE in Race 6 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Friday, 22 September 2017, he returned to scale 1.0kg in excess of the declared weight that he weighed out for the race.

There was no evidence to suggest that Jockey R Shafiq had or attempted to deceive the Clerk of Scales when weighing. However, Jockey R Shafiq had admitted consuming some fluid after he weighed out for the race and that this may have contributed to him returning overweight.

When considering penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the charge, guilty plea and his record. The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races to begin on Monday, 20 November 2017 until Friday, 01 December 2017 both dates inclusive (three Singapore Race Days). He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

This penalty will be served consecutively following the completion of his suspension from Monday, 13 November 2017 until Sunday, 19 November 2017 both dates inclusive (two Singapore Race Days).

At the conclusion of an Inquiry on Sunday, 12 November 2017, Jockey O Chavez, the rider of SATTAR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding SATTAR in Race 3 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Friday, 10 November 2017, approximately 50m after the start, he allowed his mount to shift inwards, when insufficiently clear, resulting in ARC TRIUMPH (A Munro) having to be checked.
