Strong level of nominations for Tancred Stakes meeting at Rosehill

The final day of the three meeting Golden Slipper Carnival at Rosehill on Saturday has attracted 165 nominations on Monday including 19 each for the $1.5m, Group 1 WFA KIA Tancred Stakes (2400m) and $500,000, Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) for three-year-old fillies.

These races have field limits of 13 and 14 respectively.

Godolphin have nominated Avilius (GB) to back up in the Tancred Stakes from his excellent win in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes over 2000m last Saturday with his winning margin 2 1/4L.

The Group 2 Sky High Stakes over 2000m on March 16th and the Group 3 Manion Cup over 2400 last Saturday are set to have an influence on the race.

The Kris Lees trained Red Cardinal (IRE) won the Sky High Stakes with 1 1/4L in hand and the seven-year-old Montjeu gelding has now won two in succession after his earlier win in the listed Parramatta Cup over 1900m on February 23rd.

The Waller stable have three nominated including Brimham Rocks (GB) who was fourth in the Sky High Stakes and Patrick Erin (NZ) who was seventh in the same race.

Waller’s Shraaoh (GB) was third to Midterm (GB) in the Manion Cup with Lees’ Big Duke second.

In a similar manner the first three fillies home in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes om March 6th, Verry Elleegant (NZ), Seabrook (NZ) and Arista are nominated for the Vinery Stud Stakes.  On the same day El Dorado Dreaming was second to Dixie Blossoms in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic over 1500m.

Mark Newnham has nominated Nakeeta Jane after her win in the Group 1 Surround Stakes over 1400m at Randwick on March 2nd and then her third to The Autumn Sun and Fundamentalist in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas over 1600m the following week at Randwick.

Dixie Blossoms is one of 19 nominated for the $200,000, Group 1 Emancipation Stakes (1500m).

TAB.com.au have opened Avilius up in their All In market for the Tancred Stakes as the $2.75 favourite followed by Red Cardinal at $3.50, Big Duke at $6.00 and Shraaoh at $8.00.

Verry Elleegant is the $3.50 opening favourite for the Vinery Stakes followed by Nakeeta Jane and Godolphin's Pohutukawa at $6.00 and El Dorado Dreaming at $8.00.

The rail will be out 6m for the entire circuit.

Rosehill’s weather has a forecast of a sunny day on Tuesday with 25c after rain on Monday and then partly cloudy days into Saturday.  Wednesday will be 24c, Thursday 25c with 1mm8mm of rain possible and Friday 29c with 0mm-3mm of rain possible.

Saturday’s forecast is for a partly cloudy day with 16c – 25c.
