Race:1 (666) DIVERSITY IN EDUCATION 1200M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1200 m

MY DEAR was withdrawn on 17.5.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ROYAL PREROGATIVE (M Harley). Before being allowed to race again, MY DEAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
ADONIS lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and then made heavy contact with BIG BULLY due to both horses shifting ground. This resulted in ADONIS becoming unbalanced and losing ground.
M REBORN began only fairly.
From the outside barrier, DOUBLE DOUBLE was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Despite being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, WHAMPOA STAR failed to muster speed.
After the 1000 Metres, LAUGH OUT LOUD was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 500 Metres, M REBORN and SUNNY ORIENT made contact.
At the entrance to the Straight, SUNNY ORIENT was bumped by M REBORN which shifted out to obtain clear running.
G van Niekerk (M REBORN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 350 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting out when not clear of SUNNY ORIENT, causing that horse to be badly crowded for room and and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. In this incident, SUNNY ORIENT made contact with the hindquarters of BIG BULLY which became unbalanced. G van Niekerk was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Saturday, 8 June 2019 and to expire on Thursday, 13 June 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, G van Niekerk was fined $35,000.
Near the 250 Metres, ADONIS shifted out and brushed LAUGH OUT LOUD. ADONIS was then held up for clear running approaching and passing the 100 Metres.
Near the 200 Metres, M REBORN was steadied when crowded for room between LAUGH OUT LOUD which shifted out marginally when awkwardly placed outside the heels of LIVERBIRD STAR which shifted out and BIG BULLY (N Callan) which shifted in under pressure. N Callan was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
After the race, K Teetan (DOUBLE DOUBLE)) reported that his mount was quite awkward in its action in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of DOUBLE DOUBLE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DOUBLE DOUBLE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of LAUGH OUT LOUD, PADDINGTON and SUNNY ORIENT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
RICHCITY FORTUNE and BIG BULLY were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (667) UNLEASHING POTENTIAL 1000M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1000 m

SUPERB AGILITY began only fairly and then on jumping was steadied away from the heels of IRON KING which shifted in after beginning awkwardly.
SUNDANCER and KANBEKI MOLLY were crowded for room on jumping between WINNERS BROTHER and SUPER JUNIOR which shifted in. SUPER JUNIOR was then taken out by KANBEKI MOLLY which continued to race tight outside SUNDANCER and in doing so bumped the hindquarters of GUN GUN WIN which became unbalanced. In this incident, SUPER JUNIOR lost its left front plate.
DR RESPECT was checked on jumping when crowded for room between CASA GLORY which shifted in abruptly and TELECOM ROCKET which was hampered when tightened for room outside DEMONS ROCK.
GUN GUN WIN and SUNDANCER lost their left front plate in the early stages.
Approaching the 400 Metres, IRON KING got its head on the side and lay out and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SUPER JUNIOR. After this, IRON KING continued to lay out under pressure.
Approaching the 100 Metres, GUN GUN WIN was shifted out away from the heels of IRON KING which continued to lay out.
VALIANT DREAM, MARVELOUS WORLD and SUPER JUNIOR were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (668) JC A-CONNECT 1200M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

FOREVER BRIGHT began only fairly.
ONE STEP AHEAD began only fairly and then was bumped by PROMISE KEPT which shifted out.
ALL YOU NEED began very awkwardly and then was bumped by CALIFORNIA LEGEND which shifted out.
From wide barriers, GLITTERING ARMOUR and DIAMOND BRILLIANT were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, ONE STEP AHEAD raced tight inside JOYFUL HEART which lay in. In this incident, ONE STEP AHEAD lost its left hind plate.
Passing the 1000 Metres, DIAMOND BRILLIANT (Z Purton) shifted to the inside of REGENCY DARLING to improve into tight running which was available between that horse which was shifting in and ALL YOU NEED. As DIAMOND BRILLIANT then improved to the inside of REGENCY DARLING, DIAMOND BRILLIANT was taken in by that horse which shifted in before the rider of REGENCY DARLING became aware that DIAMOND BRILLIANT had improved to its inside. After this, M F Poon, the rider of REGENCY DARLING, commenced to shift his mount out to relieve the tightening to DIAMOND BRILLIANT. When DIAMOND BRILLIANT was then taken in by REGENCY DARLING, this resulted in ALL YOU NEED being hampered and taken in onto JOYFUL HEART which lost ground approaching the 900 Metres when checked due to being unable to maintain its position inside ALL YOU NEED. Z Purton was advised that whilst the Stewards were satisfied that there was initially room for him to improve inside REGENCY DARLING once that horse continued to shift in as it had been prior to him improving, he should have made more of an effort to prevent DIAMOND BRILLIANT from shifting in and causing crowding to ALL YOU NEED and JOYFUL HEART. Z Purton was severely reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he must exercise due care when improving into tight running.
Near the 750 Metres, ALL YOU NEED and DIAMOND BRILLIANT raced tight between REGENCY DARLING and ONE STEP AHEAD which shifted out when travelling keenly and very awkwardly placed close to the heels of PROMISE KEPT.
Near the 650 Metres, ALL YOU NEED was steadied away from the heels of CALIFORNIA LEGEND.
Approaching the 600 Metres, HASTA LUEGO shifted out marginally and bumped FOREVER BRIGHT. DIAMOND BRILLIANT, which was following FOREVER BRIGHT, shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence and inconvenienced REGENCY DARLING.
Rounding the Home Turn, FOREVER BRIGHT shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of DIAMOND BRILLIANT.
Approaching the 400 Metres, JOYFUL HEART was shifted in away from the heels of CALIFORNIA LEGEND.
Approaching the 300 Metres, CALIFORNIA LEGEND was awkwardly placed outside the heels of PROMISE KEPT which shifted out.
Over the last 150 Metres, ONE STEP AHEAD raced tight inside JOYFUL HEART which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of ROYAL CHOCOLATE when held up behind that horse after being unable to improve inside ROYAL CHOCOLATE due to ONE STEP AHEAD being positioned to its inside. Then close to the finishing line, ONE STEP AHEAD was bumped by JOYFUL HEART which shifted in away from the heels of ROYAL CHOCOLATE. This resulted in JOYFUL HEART not being able to be properly tested over the last 150 Metres.
Over the concluding stages, CALIFORNIA LEGEND was unable to obtain clear running and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
Throughout the race, REGENCY DARLING travelled wide and without cover.
Throughout the race, FOREVER BRIGHT also travelled wide and without cover and subsequently finished tailed out. The performance of FOREVER BRIGHT was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FOREVER BRIGHT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of FOREVER BRIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of N Callan (ALL YOU NEED), 8th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels all the way to the end of the race where circumstances permit.
A veterinary inspection of ALL YOU NEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
DIAMOND BRILLIANT and GLITTERING ARMOUR were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (669) THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB COMMUNITY TROPHY (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

HELLO BEAUTY was withdrawn on 17.5.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, HELLO BEAUTY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
From the outside barriers, BEST ALLIANCE and WON WON TOO were steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Making the first turn near the 900 Metres, both KEY WITNESS and BEST ALLIANCE lay out.
For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 700 Metres, KEY WITNESS again got its head on the side and lay out and was very awkwardly placed inside the heels of MR CROISSANT. After the 600 Metres, KEY WITNESS was checked away from the heels of MR CROISSANT when continuing to lay out. Then in the early part of the Straight, KEY WITNESS shifted out under pressure.
After the 500 Metres, AFRICAN SKY raced tight outside HIGHLAND FORTUNE which shifted out to obtain clear running.
A veterinary inspection of KEY WITNESS and AFRICAN SKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of BEST ALLIANCE immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained multiple cuts to the outside of the right front cannon.
BIG PARTY and HIGHLAND FORTUNE were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (670) BOOSTING INNOVATIVE POWER 1800M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1800 m

MANAGEMENT STAR was slow to begin and then after initially being ridden along for a short distance was steadied and shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier.
SAVVY SEVEN shifted out at the start and bumped KWAI CHUNG ELITE.
BULLISH GLORY (K C Leung) began awkwardly and then was crowded for room between SMART PATCH and DELIGHT EXPRESS which shifted out. This resulted in BULLISH GLORY becoming unbalanced and losing ground. In this incident, K C Leung momentarily lost the use of his right stirrup iron.
From wide barriers, HO HO FEEL and AMAZING AGILITY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
For a considerable distance after the 1600 Metres, SAVVY SEVEN (Z Purton) proved very difficult to settle and over-raced. After the race, Z Purton said because of the manner in which SAVVY SEVEN over-raced for some distance in the middle stages, the horse was then not able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of SAVVY SEVEN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Approaching the 350 Metres, CHEERFUL STAR was shifted to the outside of KWAI CHUNG ELITE and then CHAPARRAL STAR to continue improving.
Near the 150 Metres, SMART PATCH shifted in and bumped MANAGEMENT STAR.
Approaching the 100 Metres, K Teetan (YOU HAVE MY WORD) dropped his right rein. K Teetan was told that this was the 7th occasion this season that he had been reported to have dropped a rein during a race. He was further told that he must address this aspect of his riding so that proper control is maintained over his mounts.
Also approaching the 100 Metres, the whip of C Y Ho (LONDON HALL) broke.
The performance of DELIGHT EXPRESS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DELIGHT EXPRESS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, U Rispoli stated that the only explanation he could offer for the disappointing performance of CHAPARRAL STAR was that the horse may have not appreciated today’s track surface given that at its two most recent starts it had raced well on a "Good to Yielding” track and prior to that was successful at Happy Valley where the surface had more give in it. A veterinary inspection of CHAPARRAL STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
LONDON HALL and GOOD DAYS were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (671) C-FOR-CHINESE@JC 1400M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m

DUKE WAI began only fairly.
MASTER ALBERT lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and then was hampered by HEALTHY TREASURE which began very awkwardly and shifted in abruptly.
RED BRICK FIGHTER shifted out at the start and bumped CALLING THE SHOTS.
PEARL CHAMPION was crowded for room on jumping between WINWIN THIRTYTHREE and THE CREATETH, both of which shifted ground. Then from the outside barriers, WINWIN THIRTYTHREE, PEARL CHAMPION and THE CREATETH were all shifted across behind runners.
THIS ONE’S FOR YOU lost its left front plate in the early stages.
SPEEDY OPTIMIST lost its right hind plate approaching the 1100 Metres.
After the 1050 Metres, MASTER ALBERT got its head up when racing ungenerously.
Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU was awkwardly placed behind DUKE WAI.
Making the turn after the 900 Metres, SPEEDY WALLY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of RED BRICK FIGHTER.
At the 400 Metres, SPEEDY WALLY was checked away from the heels of RED BRICK FIGHTER when disappointed for running outside that horse. SPEEDY WALLY, which was laying in, was then held up for clear running behind RED BRICK FIGHTER and was again steadied away from the heels of that horse near the 350 Metres.
Approaching the 350 Metres, MASTER ALBERT was shifted to the inside of GRACIOUS RYDER after being disappointed for running between that horse and SPEEDY WALLY.
Throughout the race, CALLING THE SHOTS travelled wide and without cover.
The performance of HEALTHY TREASURE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. As this was the 3rd consecutive occasion that HEALTHY TREASURE had finished tailed out in its races, the Stewards ruled that that horse must undergo a series of satisfactory consecutive barrier trials in which the horse must demonstrate that it can perform competitively and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again. A veterinary inspection of HEALTHY TREASURE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, Z Purton reported that SPEEDY OPTIMIST hung out throughout the event and then in the Straight did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of SPEEDY OPTIMIST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of CALLING THE SHOTS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
VICTORY POWER, GRACIOUS RYDER and THE CREATETH were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (672) BEYOND ARTS APPRECIATION 1400M HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 3 1400 m

NAVAS began awkwardly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
HAPPY WIN WIN was crowded for room on jumping between ASSIMILATE and MONGOLIAN LEGEND which shifted out.
When being steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover, BEAUTY ENERGY commenced to travel keenly near the 1250 Metres when racing tight outside ASSIMILATE which was taken out by HAPPY WIN WIN. After this, BEAUTY ENERGY continued to travel keenly and proved difficult to shift across to race behind ASSIMILATE until after the 1000 Metres.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, HAPPY WIN WIN got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to be shifted in behind MONGOLIAN LEGEND.
Passing the 200 Metres, EVERYONE’S JOY shifted in and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SUPER WISE. After this, SUPER WISE shifted out under pressure and inconvenienced EVERYONE’S JOY.
Near the 150 Metres, BEAUTY ENERGY raced tight outside MONGOLIAN LEGEND.
Approaching the 100 Metres, Apprentice K H Chan’s (SUPER WISE) right hand momentarily slipped away from the rein as SUPER WISE shifted out under pressure.
Close to the finishing line, KIRAM was awkwardly placed inside the heels of EVERYONE’S JOY.
When questioned regarding the performance of FOLLOW ME, J Moreira stated that whilst he had not ridden FOLLOW ME in the lead up to today’s race, the horse’s barrier trials in the lead up to today’s race had appeared to be impressive. He said FOLLOW ME was able to obtain a good trailing position behind EVERYONE’S JOY after the 1000 Metres and FOLLOW ME travelled comfortably behind that horse in the middle stages. He said rounding the Home Turn he shifted FOLLOW ME to the outside of EVERYONE’S JOY and FOLLOW ME initially quickened with that horse. He said however that its turn of foot was short-lived and the horse came under heavy pressure near the 350 Metres. He said FOLLOW ME initially stayed on one-paced, however, over the final 150 Metres was disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground. He added he was not able to offer any explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance as FOLLOW ME appeared to pull up well after the race. The performance of FOLLOW ME, favourite for today’s race and which finished towards the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FOLLOW ME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of FOLLOW ME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FOLLOW ME, SUPER WISE and EVERYONE’S JOY were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (673) EMPOWERING YOUTH 1400M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1400 m

At declaration time, U Rispoli was declared as the rider of both SURREALISM and GREEN CARD. It was established that U Rispoli had a firm commitment to ride GREEN CARD. As such, the Stewards permitted K C Leung to be substituted as the rider of SURREALISM. For this declaration error, Trainer D E Ferraris was fined $2,000.
From wide barriers, WAR ROOM and CHAIRMAN LO were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Shortly after the start, INVINCIBLE MISSILE shifted in and bumped CONFUCIUS DAY.
Despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, CIRCUIT HASSLER was slow to muster speed and near the 1250 Metres momentarily raced in restricted room between WECARE N PROSPER which shifted out after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of SURREALISM and INVINCIBLE MISSILE which shifted in. After this, WECARE N PROSPER proved very difficult to settle and for a considerable distance had to be checked away from the heels of SURREALISM. When continuing to prove very difficult to settle, WECARE N PROSPER shifted out away from the heels of SURREALISM near the 1050 Metres and bumped CIRCUIT HASSLER.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, WAR ROOM was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of CHAIRMAN LO.
Near the 750 Metres, MIGHTY POWER commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of GREEN CARD.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GREEN CARD, U Rispoli stated that, from the inside barrier, he was able to obtain a forward position in the early stages without having to make too much use of the horse. He said he initially rode his mount along as he did not want to be crossed by SURREALISM as he did not believe that this would be a horse that could take him into the race. He said after maintaining its position to the inside of SURREALISM, GREEN CARD travelled comfortably and after being crossed by HIGH VOLATILITY near the 900 Metres continued to travel well. He said he was confident that GREEN CARD would finish off the race well rounding the Home Turn and he therefore commenced to shift away from the rail to follow INVINCIBLE MISSILE as he felt that this horse would finish off the race well. He added shortly after entering the Straight GREEN CARD immediately came under heavy pressure and despite being ridden along gave ground noticeably by comparison to HIGH VOLATILITY and INVINCIBLE MISSILE approaching the 300 Metres. He said GREEN CARD continued to lose ground despite being tested and at no stage in the Straight did the horse respond to his riding. He said he had trialed GREEN CARD in the lead up to this race and the trial, in his opinion, was acceptable given that GREEN CARD does not appreciate the All Weather Track surface. Mr J Moore, the trainer of GREEN CARD, stated that, in his opinion, the horse was not suited by being ridden to obtain a position behind the lead. He said GREEN CARD performs best when ridden slightly more conservatively in a position midfield or just in advance of midfield and he believed that GREEN CARD having to race without cover until being crossed by HIGH VOLATILITY near the 900 Metres was the principal reason for the horse’s disappointing performance. He said he was satisfied with the trial of GREEN CARD leading up to today’s race and he considered the horse to be a strong chance of winning this race based on its barrier trial and its recent form. Mr Moore advised that, wherever possible, he would have the horse ridden more quietly than it was today. The performance of GREEN CARD, a last start winner and which finished towards the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GREEN CARD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GREEN CARD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HIGH VOLATILITY and INVINCIBLE MISSILE were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (674) AGE-FRIENDLY CITY 1600M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1600 m

After being loaded into the barriers, KINGS SHIELD became fractious, kicked out and got both hind legs over the back gate for some time. Acting on veterinary advice that KINGS SHIELD was not suitable to race, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, KINGS SHIELD will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SPLENDID TIMING shifted in at the start and bumped UNCLE STEVE.
From wide barriers, TANGMERE, XIANG JIANG ROCKS and EXALTATION were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After travelling a short distance, MONSTER KAKA got its head on the side, shifted out and bumped BEAUTY DAY. BEAUTY DAY then became unbalanced near the 1400 Metres after bumping with MONSTER KAKA.
UNCLE STEVE lost its right hind plate near the 1350 Metres.
Passing the 1000 Metres KING PRINT commenced to travel keenly and had to be checked away from the heels of UNCLE STEVE for some distance.
BEAUTY ICON was held up for clear running from on straightening until passing the 300 Metres.
Approaching the 250 Metres, SPLENDID TIMING was awkwardly placed outside the heels of CHEERS VANQUISHER which shifted out abruptly and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BEAUTY DAY. CHEERS VANQUISHER then shifted back in, inconveniencing BEAUTY ICON.
Approaching and passing the 100 Metres, BEAUTY DAY shifted out under pressure.
When questioned, J Moreira (CORDYCEPS) stated that after riding his mount along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, CORDYCEPS did not show as much speed as runners to its inside, primarily BEAUTY DAY. He said the race in the early stages was being run at a good tempo and for this reason he did not continue to press forward on CORDYCEPS as he believed that he would have had to make too much use of the horse when the race was already being run at a good tempo. He said whilst the pace of the race did ease somewhat after the 1200 Metres, he felt that he would have had to make considerable use of CORDYCEPS to be able to improve sufficiently to clear BEAUTY DAY to his inside and in any case would have continued to race without cover as he would have only been able to achieve a position outside CHEERS VANQUISHER. He said as CORDYCEPS was travelling well, he felt that remaining racing comfortably in a three wide position would provide the horse the best opportunity to finish off the race.
A veterinary inspection of ZHAN JIANG ROCKS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
UNCLE STEVE and CORDYCEPS were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (675) SPORTS FOR ALL 1600M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1600 m

DOCTOR GEOFF shifted in at the start and bumped RIVET.
LOBO’S LEGEND began awkwardly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Also from wide barriers, RED WARRIOR and SICHUAN DAR were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
At the 400 Metres, KING OPIE was shifted to the inside of RIVET after being disappointed for running to the outside of that horse.
Passing the 400 Metres, DOCTOR GEOFF raced tight outside RIGHT CHOICE which improved to the outside of CHARITY GO.
Approaching the 300 Metres, LOBO’S LEGEND was shifted to the inside of RIVET after being disappointed for a run between RED WARRIOR and COBY BOY.
Near the 250 Metres, RIVET was steadied away from the heels of DOCTOR GEOFF (Apprentice C Wong) which shifted out abruptly. After this, DOCTOR GEOFF continued to shift out as Apprentice Wong changed his whip from his right hand into his left hand. Apprentice Wong was told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to straighten his mounts before attempting to change the whip over.
At the 200 Metres, LOBO’S LEGEND was shifted out away from the heels of KING OPIE which shifted to the outside of RIGHT CHOICE to continue improving.
Throughout the race, CHARITY GO travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, G van Niekerk stated that he had been provided with two sets of instructions for how KING OPIE should be ridden. He said if KING OPIE began very well, he should take advantage of this and obtain a forward position, however, in the event that KING OPIE, which was running over 1600 Metres for the first time, did not began very well, he should shift the horse across behind runners and obtain a position with cover. He said this was based on the manner in which KING OPIE performed in a barrier trial in the lead up to today’s race. He said in that trial KING OPIE finished well after being ridden off the speed. He said, in his opinion, whilst KING OPIE had been racing consistently, the horse had not been finding the line strongly at the end of its recent races and therefore it was felt that KING OPIE may benefit by being ridden more conservatively. He added KING OPIE began only fairly today and therefore he immediately commenced to shift across behind runners and obtain cover in a position behind midfield. He said when ridden more quietly, KING OPIE finished off the race well.
After the race, K Teetan (PERFECT MATCH) stated that although his mount became fractious in the barriers and lunged at the front gates, he did not believe this had a bearing on the performance of the horse. He said PERFECT MATCH was able to obtain a forward position in the early stages without having to be ridden along and after obtaining a trailing position behind CIRCUIT GLORY near the 1000 Metres then travelled well. He said however that, in his opinion, the horse was disappointing in the Straight in that it did not finish off the race as anticipated. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT MATCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of RIVET and COBY BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
RED WARRIOR and CHAMPION’S WAY were sent for sampling.
