Victorian jockey Jordan Childs is hopeful he can continue his best-ever season as early as this Saturday despite injuring his back in a mounting yard tumble at Bendigo on Sunday.
Childs was transported to Epworth Hospital with back spasms after he jumped awkwardly from mount following the fourth event, but the 23-year-old is expected to be released on Monday afternoon.
Childs is currently fourth in the race for the Victoria’s jockey title with 79 winners this season and is ninth in the metropolitan title with 25 winners.
Victorian Jockey’s Association chief executive Matt Hyland said Childs was awaiting results from a scan but was aiming to ride at the Andrew Ramsden Stakes meeting at Flemington this Saturday following a few days’ rest.
