Race 1- Danny O’Brien Racing Pinchapoo Handicap - 1600m:
Savvy Oak (NZ) - connections advised would be ridden more forward; settled in a position behind the leaders.
Doroza (NZ) - slow to begin.
A Fighting Fury - slow to begin. Rider Craig Williams stated that his mount was not suited by the wide barrier draw however he was satisfied with the run. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slow recovery.
Seberate - rider Jordan Childs could offer no explanation for the performance, which was below expectations.
Global Exchange - rider Mark Zahra was of the opinion that the colt is still inexperienced and will be improved with the outing today. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 2- Fight Cancer Foundation Handicap - 1800m:
Al Galayel (IRE) - co-trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace were fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of LR27(3) for failing to lodge a stable return accurately reflecting the stable location of Al Galayel (IRE).
Harmattan - near the 1500m was steadied off the heels of Wheal Leisure. Rider Michael Walker reported that after travelling well into the race the mare felt amiss in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slow recovery.
Lucky For All (NZ) - raced greenly in the straight.
Belgravia (IRE) - rider Andrew Mallyon was of the view that the horse would be better suited over further ground.
Race 3- Skyline Education Foundation Plate - 1000m:
Gytrash - after being fractious in its starting stall, began awkwardly and lost ground.
Irish County - slow to begin and was then steadied away from the heels of Rock Hard, which shifted out slightly on jumping away.
Fine Dane - began awkwardly and was slow to begin. When questioned regarding his tactics, rider Patrick Moloney explained that after beginning awkwardly and being slow to begin, the gelding then began to over-race and as a result he shifted out across the heels of Roosevelt and he was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race. He advised that he was given no specific instructions other than to settle where comfortable, and he was conscious that the colt was also slow to begin at its last race start at Moe and also raced wide.
Roosevelt - when being restrained near the 800m, was steadied off the heels of Robe De Fete which shifted out at this point. Raced in restricted room from the 200m before shifting out to gain running passing the 100m.
Written By - lost its near fore plate in running.
The track was upgraded from Good 4 to Good 3 @ 1.49pm after the running of this race.
Race 4- Punters.com.au Living Legends Handicap - 1400m:
Tulip - connections advised would be ridden more forward; raced wide without cover before settling outside the leader near the 800m.
Mamzelle Tess - began awkwardly. Steadied at the 1100m to avoid the heels of Royal Applause, which when getting its head up shifted in away from Tulip (Ethan Brown) which was racing neatly on that mare’s outside; Ethan Brown was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future and Stewards accepted that Royal Applause had contributed to this incident.
Tranquil Miss - slow to begin. Raced wide without cover.
Journeygirl - near the 1300m was steadied to avoid the heels of Istria which in turn was taken out by Royal Applause which shifted out away from Mamzelle Tess.
Royal Applause - got its head up in the early and middle stages when racing keenly.
Violent Snow - disappointed for a run passing the 200m and was then held up before gaining clear running over the concluding stages.
Race 5- Grassroots Sports Club for Mirabel Handicap - 1100m:
Captain Punch - underwent a veterinary examination after arriving on course and was passed suitable to race. Underwent a further veterinary examination behind the barriers and was again passed suitable to race. Knuckled on jumping away. Raced three wide without cover. Rider Brendon Davis reported that his mount would be better suited on a firmer track. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Bryan - slow to begin.
Whypeeo - jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and hampered Heart Of A Lion. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be bilaterally lame in front and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
Man From Uncle - shortly after the start became unbalanced and had its hindquarters turned when it shifted out and brushed Heart Of A Lion. When making ground was held up from the 100m and went to the line not being fully tested.
Spending To Win - rider Regan Bayliss was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(i) for using his whip for two consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
Marsupial - rider Craig Williams stated that the gelding was not suited by the strong tempo and was under pressure throughout to hold its position. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 6- Aquis Jim Moloney Stakes for Pinchapoo (Listed) - 1400m:
Sundarbans (NZ) - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 7.45am.
Cardinet - late withdrawal by order of Steward at 7.50am and the explanation of trainer Mick Price for failing to scratch by the prescribed time was accepted.
Assertive Play - slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly had sustained an injury to its off foreleg and has been transported to an equine hospital for treatment.
Cross Legend - began awkwardly. Near the 1300m steadied away from the heels of Reginae which was shifting out; Mark Zahra was notified to exercise more care.
Spanish Whisper - began awkwardly, shifted out and hampered Kinky Boom. Raced three wide without cover.
Kinky Boom - hampered at the start. Steadied near the 1200m.
Tahitian Dancer - near the 1200m was checked off the heels of Cross Legend resulting in Kinky Boom, which was following, being steadied in consequence.
Anjana - raced wide without cover in the early stages before settling outside the leader near the 1000m.
Krone - near the 800m was taken out off its course and became unbalanced after being contacted by Cross Legend on a number of occasions.
Metronome - a post race veterinary examination identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. The filly shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000m in the presence of a Steward.
Brett Prebble (Cross Legend) - was found guilty of a charge of improper riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the improper riding being that near the 800m he rode his mount out from behind Mystic Journey when not entitled to do so, thereby making contact with Krone on a number of occasions resulting in Krone being taken out off its course and becoming unbalanced. Brett Prebble had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight September 30th and to expire at midnight October 18th, a total of twenty race meetings (four metropolitan, sixteen provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the seriousness of the charge however made allowances for the feature meetings he will miss.
Race 7- East Malvern Bendigo Bank MRC Foundation Cup (Group 3) - 2000m:
Sir Charles Road - after arriving on course, blood was detected in the gelding’s right nostril which was attributable to a minor abrasion and the gelding was passed suitable to race.
Rising Red (NZ) - connections advised would be ridden closer; settled behind the leader.
Hiyaam (NZ) - connections advised would be ridden closer due to being up in distance; settled mid-field.
Night’s Watch - slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
Zacada (NZ) - slow to begin.
Vengeur Masque (IRE) - slow to begin and then was checked when tightened for room between Sir Charles Road, which shifted out, and Folkswood (GB).
Folkswood (GB) - knuckled on jumping away. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
Divine Unicorn (GB) - after being wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward and take up the lead near the 1400m. Hung out rounding the home turn and in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a delayed recovery.
Odeon (NZ) - steadied near the 1800m when tightened for room between Ventura Storm and Our Venice Beach (IRE) (Jordan Childs) and Northwest Passage (Stephen Baster) which both shifted in. Stewards could not attribute this incident to any one rider however Jordan Childs and Stephen Baster were both severely reprimanded for permitted their mounts to shift in. Then over-raced in the early and middle stages and got its head up. Held up in the early part of the straight before gaining clear running near the 200m.
Northwest Passage - raced three wide without cover.
Spanish Reef - tightened for room near the 300m between Folkswood (GB) and Northwest Passage.
Mighty Boss - held up for a short distance near the 250m.
James Doyle (Folkswood (GB)) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out when not sufficiently clear of Spanish Reef resulting in that mare being tightened for room between Folkswood (GB) and Northwest Passage. James Doyle had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight September 22nd and to expire at midnight September 28th, a total of seven race meetings (two metropolitan, five provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and that the carelessness was in the low range.
Race 8- Ladbrokes Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (Group 1) - 1400m:
Land Of Plenty - after making contact with a gate leaving the mounting yard, underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race. Raced three wide without cover.
Mr Sneaky - connections advised would be ridden further back from the wide gate; settled towards the rear of the field.
Holy Snow - began awkwardly.
Showtime - raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
Peaceful State - raced four wide without cover. Rider Dean Yendall reported that his mount raced wide throughout however was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a delayed recovery.
Home Of The Brave (IRE) - rider Mark Zahra dropped his left rein near the 50m.
Sovereign Nation - over the concluding stages steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Home Of The Brave (IRE).
Race 9- Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes - 1200m:
Carnival (NZ) - began awkwardly. Brushed on the hindquarters passing the 200m and became unbalanced. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had sustained a laceration to its near hind hock.
Leather’n’lace - slow to begin. Held up from the 300m before gaining clear running approaching the 150m.
Fuhryk - over-raced in the early and middle stages. Rider Luke Nolen stated that after beginning well he settled further forward than anticipated and he noted that the mare is usually slow to begin.
Global Glamour - over-raced in the early and middle stages. Rider Stephen Baster reported that the mare was not suited to the tempo, in particular when the pace steadied in the middle stages and he was then caught wide. a post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off hind leg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
Life On The Wire - raced three wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
I Am Excited - held up for a short distance passing the 300m.
Creativity - held up from the 200m before gaining clear running approaching the 100m and when attempting a narrow run passing the 200m brushed the hindquarters of Carnival (NZ) resulting in Carnival (NZ) becoming unbalanced.
Prussian Vixen - a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Epidemic - a post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
