Sky Boy and My Nordic Hero (GB), the likely favourites, have barriers nine and ten respectively for the $250,000, Group 2 Fugen Contruction Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday for the Australian Turf Club feature.
The Anthony and Edwards Cummings trained Sky Boy has 53kg under Christian Reith with the Wallers stable’s My Nodic Hero carrying 57.5kg under Hugh Bowman.
The progressive Sky Boy has won four in succession and six from 11 overall starts with stakes of $278,528.
Sky Boy has been taken along quietly by the Cummings duo and his last start win showed the benefit of that patience. At Rosehill November 24th Sky Boy carried 58kg under Reith to dominate a Benchmark 88 by 1L without undue pressure.
My Nordic Hero won the Villiers lead-up Group 3 Festival Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill on December 1st with 56kg under Bowman.
Top-weight is the Waterhouse and Bott trained Fabrizo with 59kg under Josh Parr with barrier 11. Fabrizo was second in the Goulburn Cup over 1600m on November 25th to Godolphin’s Interlocuter (USA) with the Kris Lees trained Articus (FR) third.
Both Interlocuter, James McDonald, 56.5kg and barrier four, and Articus, Andrew Gibbons, 53kg and barrier two, are in the Villiers field.
The Villiers Stakes is Race 7 at 5.00pm.
Race 4 at 3.00pm is the $140,000, listed Christmas Cup (2400m) with Destiny’s Kiss the top-weight at 59kg under Jay Ford in the field of seven.
The other black type race on the programme is the $140,000, listed Razor Sharpe Handicap (1200m), Race 6 at 4.20pm, with a field of 10. Gerald Ryan’s Deploy is the top-weight with 61kg under Glyn Schofield.
The nine race programme received 125 nominations on Wednesday with the first race at 1.10pm the $75,000, TAB Highway Handicap (1000m).
The track is rated a Good 4 on Wednesday with the rail in the true position for the entire circuit.
