Alizee favourite for All-Star

The $5m, All-Star Mile (1600m) at Flemington promises to be the highlight of Melbourne’s Festival of Racing at Flemington on March 16 and Alizee has opened the $6 ‘All In’ favourite with TAB after official entries closed on Tuesday.

Alizee resumed from an eight-month layoff just before the end of 2018 with an authoritative victory in the Christmas Classic at Randwick on December 29 and the James Cummings-trained mare has shown a touch of class throughout her career with six wins and three minor placings from 15 starts.

“Alizee is a dual winner at 1600 metres having claimed the 2017 Flight Stakes at Randwick and the Coolmore Legacy Stakes as part of the 2018 Championships at Randwick,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.

“There is plenty of quality amongst the 130 official entries for the inaugural running of Melbourne’s new feature race with the public set to vote for their favourite horse, or horses, from 9am AEDT on Monday.”

The Autumn Sun is listed as an $8 second elect with TAB as Chris Waller announced yesterday that last year’s brilliant Caulfield Guineas winner has been entered to ensure the options for his owners are left open although an appearance is not guaranteed to feature on the colt’s program.

Eight-year-old gelding Happy Clapper – who has won the 2015 Villiers Stakes, 2017 Epsom and 2018 Doncaster over the Randwick mile – is currently rated an $11 chance with TAB along with the Mick Price-trained Grunt.

“Even though Grunt didn’t enjoy the best Spring Carnival, he did take out the Makybe Diva Stakes which emphasised his liking for the Flemington mile after claiming the Australian Guineas over the same trip last Autumn,” Langskaill said.
