Moriarty (IRE) brings up treble for Waller

Moriarty (IRE) has capped off a terrific day for both Chris Waller and Nash Rawiller with a win in the $200,000 Group 2 Croser Brisbane Cup at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

From a wide barrier (21), Rawiller was able to have Moriarty close at the turn before finding a gap between runners at the top of the straight, coming with a strong run over the final 200m to run down Quintessential who hung on for a length second with leader Zennista in third a long head away.

Moriarty came into the race on the back of a close fourth in the Eagle Farm Cup just last week and was able to turn the tables of Quintessential, bringing up the third winner of the day for Waller and Rawiller.

“I wanted to count to ten before I went and to be quite honest when I aimed up for my run it was always there but got narrower as I got closer to it,” said Rawiller.

“He is much better on firmer ground and last start was weight-for-age and he probably was not strong enough but I am sure he can be in the future he is a lovely hore.”

Just moments after the race Fulghar scored a win at Flemington for not only the Waller stable but plenty of the connections of Moriarty.

“It has been a great day and full credit to the stable,” said Waller.

“Moriarty has been a bit of a revelation to the stable in the last couple of months and continues to improve and even today stepping up to 2400m was a concern.

“He ran to the line strongly, its been a good day and to almost win the two-year-old race would have completed the day but we can’t get greedy.”
