Williams to ride Red Cadeaux (GB) in Japan Cup

Leading jockey Craig Williams will take the ride aboard Red Cadeaux (GB) in the Group 1 Japan Cup (2400m) at Toyko on November 25th with the horse pulling up well after his Melbourne Cup run at Flemington last Tuesday.

Connections decided to go with Williams who has ridden in Japan previously ahead of Michael Rodd who rode the horse when eighth in the Cup.

Williams took out the Group 3 Mermaid Stakes aboard Gullveig in Japan earlier in the year before finishing second on Rulership in Group 1 Company. He returns to Japan after Victorian spring racing for a further contract.

Provided the six-year-old gelding pulls up okay he then has the option of backing up into the Group 1 Longines Hong Kong Vase (2400m) at Sha Tin on December 9th three weeks later, a race he finished third in last year.

Williams rode the Ed Dunlop-trained runner on Monday mornng at Werribee for the first time.
