UK advertising authority upholds complaints against four betting firms
13 Sep 2017 | Racingpost.com

Four betting companies could face action after the UK Advertising Standards Authority upheld complaints over adverts disguised as news articles that it said targeted vulnerable people.

The offending adverts were created and placed by affiliates of the firms – Ladbrokes, Sky Vegas, 888 and Casumo – which are paid to direct customers to online bookmakers and casinos.

In a ruling published on Wednesday, the ASA said that while it noted each company did not approve or condone the adverts, they stood to benefit from them and were therefore responsible.

All four firms told the ASA the adverts had not been approved by them, with Sky Vegas saying the affiliate had breached the terms of its agreement with the company, which has since been terminated.

Ladbrokes confirmed the advert has been removed, and that they have warned all other affiliates regarding their conduct in respect to such adverts, a move mirrored by 888.

Casumo also pledged to address its affiliates in relation to the matter and confirmed the media buyer responsible for this particular advert had been removed.
