Dawn Approach is being primed to return in the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday, although Ireland's wet summer could yet play a role in determining the next start for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas favourite.
 
The unbeaten son of New Approach would be making his first start carrying the colours of Godolphin, who bought a half-share from Jackie Bolger following the colt's convincing victory in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The deal did not affect the training arrangements forDawn Approach, but the wet weather may well affect the thoughts of his trainer Jim Bolger, who is seeking a fourth win in a race formerly run at Phoenix Park in Dublin.

"He wouldn't want it any slower than yielding," Bolger said on Tuesday, as Dawn Approach was among 15 acceptors for a race won in 11 of the past 14 years by a runner trained by Aidan O'Brien.

Bolger added: "Dawn Approach has done well since his Coventry Stakes win, but we'll wait and see what the weather does and what the ground will be like before deciding whether he'll run."

Dawn Approach, a best-priced 10-1 shot for the Guineas, has form on easy ground, having won on yielding going on his debut at the Curragh before twice scoring on good to yielding at Naas prior to his Royal Ascot victory on good going.

The ground at the Curragh was described as yielding to soft on Tuesday, but the forecast is for dry and sunny weather later in the week.
