Investec Diomed Stakes (Group 3) 1m½f, 3yo+
Trainer Andrew Balding and jockey Jimmy Fortune, who will be represented by leading Investec Derby contender Bonfire in Saturday's Classic, received a timely boost when they teamed up with Side Glance to win the Group 3 Diomed Stakes on Friday.
The Sheikh Fahad Al Thani-owned five-year-old ranged upsides odds-on favourite Worthadd and took command in the straight, holding runner-up Dance And Dance by three-quarters of a length.
A trip to Royal Ascot and a showdown with the mighty Frankel in the Queen Anne Stakes on June 19 is likely to be the next stop for Side Glance.
"He's a talented horse who hasn't been quite right on his last two starts," said Balding.
"I think he'll run in the Queen Anne - something's got to finish second to Frankel.
"I'm thrilled for Sheikh Fahad who's put such a lot into racing. It's great having winners for him."
