Dawn Approach share sold to Godolphin
28 Jun 2012 | Racingpost.com Unbeaten Qipco 2,000 Guineas favourite Dawn Approach will race for Godolphin after a controlling share was sold in the juvenile by trainer Jim Bolger.

Bred and owned by Bolger, Dawn Approach's price for the Guineas ranges between 7-1 and 12-1 and he will remain with his trainer until the end of the season with a decision on his future to be made over the winter according to Godolphin.

The deal echoes the move Sheikh Mohammed made for Dawn Approach's sire, the 2008 Derby winner New Approach who was also trained by Bolger, in September 2007.

Dawn Approach took his record to four wins in four starts by adding the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot to his three wins in Ireland, which included the Listed Alfred Nobel Rochestown Stakes.

Bolger has nominated the Group 2 Galileo Futurity Stakes on August 25 and Group 1 Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at the Curragh on September 15 - both races won by New Approach - as targets for Dawn Approach while the Group 1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes in October is also under consideration.

Simon Crisford, Godolphin's racing manager, said: "We are delighted Dawn Approach will race for Godolphin and look forward to seeing him race at the highest level throughout his career."

"It is fantastic how well New Approach has started his stallion career and Dawn Approach appears to have inherited many of his qualities."

Godolphin last landed the 2,000 Guineas in 1999 with Island Sands while New Approach was narrowly denied in the race himself in 2008 when losing out to Henrythenavigator by a nose.
